Joint Workshop on New technologies for Computer/Robot Assisted Surgery

July 9-10, 2012: Madrid, Spain

The Poster - The Flyer

Programme and proceedings

A multi-disciplinary workshop aimed at checking the state-of-the-art in, and advancing the field of, minimally-invasive surgical procedures.

The Joint Workshop on New Technologies for Computer/Robot Assisted Surgery will be held at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain in July 9-10, 2012.

The workshop serves as a formal and informal discussion platform between scientists, engineers, and clinicians interested in the application of computing and robotics in medicine and surgery.  We are keen to promote positive interactions between students and established experts in the field and to stimulate collaboration between European centers and existing projects funded by the EC framework programs.

The second aim of the event is to compare the achievements and research lines of the project with the wider scientific community. Therefore the invitation to the events is extended to the wide scientific community and general public. During presentation and discussion session open to the wide audience will be presented the project’s research lines.

The second workshop’s aim is to dedicate time for the team working within the consortium, allowing the interaction of partners working on not strictly correlated fields. There will be organized presentations on the project’s evolution and discussion session trying to identify means of integrating the research conducted within the project. It is expected that such event will enhance the level of awareness, among the partners, on project direction, and will be encouraged horizontal and international collaboration among the researchers.

- Mauro Sette (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven)

Keynote speakers:

- Prof. Dr. Eng. Enrique Gomez (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Spain)

- Prof. Dr. Eng. Manuel Doblaré ( Universidad de Zaragoza)

- Prof. Dr. Eng. Dominiek Reynaerts (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium)

- Prof. Dr. Eng. Wolfgang Birkfellner (Medizinische Universitat Wien, Austria)

- Mr. Rob Reilink, M Sc (Twente Universiteit).

Workshop participants:

One of the event’s goals is to support the creation of networks of knowledge among the European scientists working in the same field as the SCATh project. For this reason, particular attention has been given to the invitation of the participants. Different European projects had been invited to present their contributions in the SCATh summer school. Among other projects that had been reached with the advisement of the project at European level through the most relevant mailing lists, the most representative project that confirmed their participation are reported. The expected participants’ number is around 100 people.

Subscription and fees:

In order to facilitate the participation of early-stage researchers, the SCATh project Coordination Board have decided to create a student fee. The students must send a letter signed by their professor ensuring that they are included in an educational program.

In order to subscribe fill the linked form:

Student fee:

150 euro - early bird registration (before 15th June)

250 euro - regular registration (after 15th June)

Non-student fee:

250 euro - early bird registration (before 15th June)

350 euro - regular registration (after 15th June)

Call for papers:

We believe that in order to be successful a workshop should be interactive and most of the participants should bring their contribution. For this reason all the participants were requested to submit, in a first stage an abstract, and the afterwards if selected a four page manuscript. During the workshop the manuscripts will be presented in form of oral communication to the public. The contents of the presentation are overviews of the research conducted for a specific topic within the project. All the manuscript will be collected in a volume and the volume will be electronically published with an ISBN number.

Deadlines:

-          15th April 2012   500 Word Abstract submission Closes
